Ambassador Spotlight!
Fencing for nearly 40 years, Eric Holmgren was trained by fencing master Albert Couturier in modern international style that combines the best of the French and Hungarian systems. He is a member of the USFA (United States Fencing Association) and has been a competitive fencer. For 30 years, Eric was the head coach for the fencing team at the University of California at Irvine. In 2024, Eric was named Male Citizen of Year for the city of Placentia.
In 2009, Eric founded Gryphon Archery and Fencing Club in Placentia. The club offers instruction in the Olympic sports of fencing and archery to kids, teens and adults. Fencing classes are offered through the cities of Yorba Linda, Corona and Murrieta recreation departments. Locally, Eric teaches archery on Saturdays at Santiago Park Nature Reserve Archery Range in Santa Ana. During the summer, Gryphon offers fun and friendly week-long camp programs in fencing and archery!
“Fencing and archery teach discipline, critical-thinking, resilience, and honor. Over the decades I have trained thousands of young people in both of these sports. I like to think I am improving society one student at a time.”
